Homemade Soft Pretzels Recipe

  • Author: Ava Mack
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 8 servings 1x

Description

Savor the joy of warm, chewy homemade soft pretzels. Perfect for snacking or sharing during movie nights, these pretzels will become a household favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt (plus extra for topping)
  • ⅔ cup baking soda (for boiling)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add warm water while mixing until a dough forms. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  2. Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
  3. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into smaller pieces. Roll each piece into long ropes and shape them into pretzels.
  4. Bring 10 cups of water to a boil; carefully add baking soda. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds on each side, then drain on paper towels.
  5. Preheat your oven to 450°F. Place boiled pretzels on a parchment-lined baking sheet, brush with melted butter, sprinkle with sea salt, and bake until golden brown (12-15 minutes).
