Apple Hand Pies are delightful, warm treats that combine a flaky crust with a sweet and spiced apple filling. Perfect for any occasion, these handheld desserts evoke feelings of nostalgia and comfort. With just a few simple ingredients and easy steps, you’ll create a batch that will have everyone asking for seconds—especially if you add a surprise chocolate chip or two!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 cups tart apples (like Granny Smith), peeled and chopped
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. 1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Gradually add ice water until a dough forms.
  2. 2. Chill the Dough: Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. 3. Make the Filling: Combine apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a bowl.
  4. 4. Roll Out the Dough: On a floured surface, roll half the dough to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into circles.
  5. 5. Assemble Pies: Place 1 tablespoon of filling on each circle, fold over, and crimp edges to seal.
  6. 6. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place pies on a baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden.
